What causes capillaries on the face?
Capillaries are broken blood vessels that occur just beneath the surface of the skin. They are also commonly called spider veins for their webbed appearance and affect up to 50% of people over the age of 18.
Capillaries can occur on anyone at any age but a few factors will make it more likely, such as genetics, sun exposure, pregnancy, rosacea, alcohol consumption and injuries can all cause capillaries on the face.
What do they look like?
Capillaries look like tiny little veins on the face, or spider veins as they are commonly called. Capillaries can vary in size and are often found on the cheeks and around the nose. Capillaries appear as small spidery red, pink or blue marks beneath the surface of the skin
How can they be treated?
The Excel V Laser does a fantastic job of improving the appearance of capillaries on the face. DermCosmesis recently treated a patient who had capillaries removed from their face by our Excel V laser with glowing results.
The patient had four treatments four weeks apart to treat this condition. Results can be seen in the photo below.
Post care treatment
After each treatment you can expect a bit of redness and mild swelling for about 24 hours. During this time it is important patients stay away from sun exposure or active skin care ingredients for 48 hours so as not to cause irritation.
Stratacel gel was also applied in the morning and night-time for 3 days post treatment to ensure the best possible results.
