How Dermamelan helped treat this client’s hyperpigmentation
If you suffer from any type of skin pigmentation, such as freckles, melasma, lentigo, age spots or post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation, a Demamelan Peel may be a suitable treatment to help you address your skin care concerns.
Dermamelan can treat a variety of skin conditions and is considered to be safe, with very positive results. It is a suitable treatment for all skin types, including darker skin tones that often experience significant pigmentation. It can also be used for clients whose pigmentation has not responded to other types of treatment.
And now is a great time to book in for a Dermamelan treatment, as it’s a perfect peel to do over the winter months!
What Is A Dermamelan Peel?
A Dermamelan peel is a medical method for treating hyperpigmentation.
Hyperpigmentation is a very common skin condition that affects people of all skin types and is most likely to affect the face, arms and legs. It occurs when the skin produces more melanin (the pigment that gives skin its colour), which can make spots of patches of skin appear darker than surrounding areas.
The most common causes of hyperpigmentation are:
- Prolonged exposure to the sun;
- Skin inflammation, as a result of conditions such as acne, eczema, lupus or due to injury; and
- Melasma, due to hormonal changes (such as during pregnancy or menopause).
How Does It Work?
A Dermamelan peel works by having an intensive corrective effect on skin hyperpigmentation while regulating the overproduction of melanin by the melanocytes, inhibiting and controlling the appearance of new dark spots.
It has a dual corrective and controlling action, achieving short- and long-term results by keeping hyperpigmentation under control.
The treatment consists of an initial in consultation session, followed by a home treatment plan that lasts around 4 months.
At DermCosmesis, most of our clients will only require one Dermamelan peel to see visible results. For deeper pigmentation, clients may require a follow up treatment delivered six to eight months after their initial treatment
You can see the results in the before and after images of one of our clients below. This client came to us with concerns about dark circles, pigmentation and sunspots on their skin. After only one treatment, you can already see the positive results.

Please be aware that results may vary from patient to patient and some patients may experience minor side effects. This treatment is not suitable if you are pregnant.
Are There Any Side Effects?
During the initial phase and after treatment at the clinic, the skin may appear reddened and feel warmer than usual. These are mild, expected side effects that will generally disappear after 24-48 hours.
During the home phase, it is also normal to experience a slight flaking and some clients may experience increased skin sensitivity. These effects disappear with the application of the home products recommended as part of your treatment plan.
It is recommended you allow 2 weeks for the skin to complete the healing process following the initial treatment and follow the home after-care routine for best results.
