Chances are the skincare products that you used in your 20s are no longer working for your skin, as you head into your 30s. In your 30s factors such as hormonal swings, stress, and babies all affect your skins texture and tone. Another thing that tends to surface in your 30s are dark spots, acne scars, and fine expression lines that were never there before. So it’s time to put some skincare steps in place in your 30s!

Incorporating skincare products that are designed to combat these issues (lines, dark spots, scars etc.) into your daily skincare routine, will make a big difference in your skin’s overall appearance. Not just now, but into your 40s and beyond.

Protect your skin from the sun

Sunscreen is vital to use in your 30s and at any age, especially in the harsh Australian sun. Most premature aging of your skin is caused by the harsh UV rays. Use a sunscreen every single day.  Apply it to your hands and neck as those areas of our body really show your age. And remember to re-apply throughout the day, especially in summer. There are different sunscreens for your face and body, so find one that suits your skin and use it daily. This is non-negotiable!

Don’t forget your neck!

Using your facial moisturiser onto your neck area is not really suitable to keep the skin in this area looking smooth and hydrated. You are better off investing on a cream specifically designed for your neck and chest area. Use your neck cream on your neck and chest area. And also apply sunscreen to this area too. When the neck is left neglected it will start to show the signs of ageing and make you potentially appear older than you actually are.

Use an eye cream

It’s a good idea to add an eye cream to your daily skincare regime in your 30s, especially if you already have puffy eyes, dark circles or crow’s feet (wrinkles around your eyes). Since your 30s is prime time to have a baby, if you are a mother you may have dark circles or puffiness on a permanent basis. An eye cream can ease this. An eye cream with SPF in it is an added bonus. And another item which can help with the under eye area is a good quality concealer to throw in your makeup bag.

Makeup

Many women avoid wearing makeup during the day to allow their skin breathe. However makeup helps to protect your skin and should be included as a step in your daily skincare routine. Since UV damage is the number one cause of premature aging, and most people don’t actually wear enough sunscreen. Makeup protects your skin in the absence of sunscreen. Your makeup is an extra barrier against those harmful UV rays. Choose a foundation that lets your skin breathe and looks natural and light.

Daily Skincare

When it comes to skincare basics, invest in a  facial cleanser, exfoliator, day and night moisturiser, and sunscreen. These products should be a staple in your bathroom cabinet. Use these products daily. If you have oily or combination skin, stick to a gel based cleanser. For normal or dry skin use a cream based cleanser. Choose an appropriate daytime moisturiser based on your skin type. And a night cream is a must have, to hydrate  your skin while you sleep.

Serums

Serums are a great addition to your daily skincare, especially one with antioxidants, as this will give your skin an anti-aging boost.  Antioxidants protect your skin from free radicals which cause your skin to age. By making sure your skin gets an antioxidant boost daily you can begin to correct any skin damage and prevent further skin damage from occurring.
