Laser Facial Rejuvenation

Our strong Perth sun increases our skins chance of high UV exposure which leads to photoaging, a process which can cause mottled pigmentation, wrinkles and loss of collagen. Laser facial rejuvenation aims to restore the skin and decrease these early signs of aging.
Laser facial rejuvenation involves the process of replacing the loss of facial volume, reduction of wrinkles, improving skin texture and skin tone using a specialised MedLite Q-Switched laser.

DermCosmesis has chosen the Q-Switch Laser for its proven effectiveness arising from the combination of high power and nanosecond pulses that deliver peak energy throughout the layers of the epidermis faster than the normal relaxation time of the tissue. The result is a safe, effective way to control the laser energy and safely achieve desired results.

DermCosmesis is a leading laser skin clinic in Perth and uses the MedLite Q-Switched laser to provide effective therapeutic treatment for:
1. Skin Rejuvenation
2. Epidermal Pigmentation Removal
3. Dermal Pigment Lesion removal including Melasma, gray-brown patches of discoloration on the face, forearms, chest, and neck
4. Acne Scare Treatment

The key benefit is that the redness or haemoglobin of blood vessel imperfections in a patient’s problem area is selectively targeted by treatment to reduce down time to a minimum and ensure maximal safety. Due to the unique method of penetration and collagen remodelling properties, the Excel V can deliver many dramatic improvements such as:

Removing red scars – Reducing visible stretchmarks – Effectively treating veins and dark circles around the eye area – Improving the texture and tone of thin and fragile neck skin on the face and neck – Removing “turkey neck” skin appearance caused by sun damage.

The Perth skin clinic using the Excel V can also target facial veins that can compromise appearance and confidence. The Excel V laser can help improve appearances Rosacea, broken blood vessels and capillaries, leg veins, spider veins, port wine stains and more. And this treatment is not limited to a particular skin colour.

The Excel V is a new laser system for providing treatment of a variety of vascular and benign pigmented skin conditions. Many skin conditions manifest in the form of broken or abnormal blood vessels in the skin, as is the case with rosacea, in which the facial blood vessels dilate excessively causing redness and flushing.

Excel V treats vascular conditions by administering a unique high power green laser that is absorbed by the abnormal blood vessels in the skin. The laser heats the abnormal vessels causing the vein walls to collapse and seal shut. Over time, the vessels will no longer be visible. Several treatments may be necessary to achieve the desired result.

Excel V is the gold standard in treating these common vascular concerns. The number of treatments varies with the individual and the condition and we recommend a free consultation with our professional staff to determine your individual program.

DermCosmesis with the Cutera Excel V can also offer laser Genesis skin therapy. This is an innovative, technologically advanced way to promote vibrant and healthy looking skin in men and women. Now you can have a youthful appearance by treating those conditions that are typically associated with premature signs of ageing and sun damage, such as excessive redness, large pores, uneven texture, and fine-line wrinkles. The laser Genesis procedure has been scientifically proven to produce new collagen.

The Laser Genesis procedure utilises non-invasive laser technology to safely, discretely and effectively treat fine-line wrinkles, diffuse and reduce excessive redness and help manage large pores, uneven skin texture, and scars. You can expect to see subtle yet consistent results after each treatment, without unwanted side effects such as bruising or excessive skin irritation. Treatments can be performed in a relaxed, comfortable manner without the use of topical anesthetics or gel.

The Laser Genesis system works by gently heating the upper dermis well below your skin’s surface, Laser Genesis stimulates collagen regrowth. Additional heat is generated in dilated capillaries to reduce redness.  The procedure usually takes around 30 minutes and is performed by our highly skilled Doctors and Nurses.

The 1st treatment results are often subtle and usually only noticeable after an average of 4 weeks (The time it takes for your body to produce new collagen). On average, you may require four to six treatments in order to achieve optimal results. Every patient’s condition and needs vary.

Over the course of four to five treatments, Laser Genesis can help restore the skin’s glow and appearance by smoothing out uneven texture caused by ageing, sun damage or scars. You will see a more even, healthy complexion as large pores are reduced in size, and minor imperfections are diminished. The individual treatment results are subtle, but the overall effect of multiple treatments can be quite dramatic.

What is Laser Facial Rejuvenation?

Laser facial rejuvenation involves the process of replacing the loss of facial volume, reduction of wrinkles, improving skin texture and skin tone using a specialised MedLite Q-Switched laser.

What types of pigmentation will be removed with Facial Rejuvenation?

DermCosmesis laser skin clinic uses the MedLite Q-Switch laser to remove brown age spots, melisma, freckles and birthmarks. Success rates depend on the type of pigmentation and your individual skin type, which your dermal therapist will discuss with you prior to treatment. Please note that Q-Switch lasers cannot be used for the removal of legions that are cancerous or suspected of being cancerous. If you are unsure, you can speak with one of our cosmetic physicians prior to treatment.

Is it safe?

Absolutely. The Q-Switch laser from DermCosmesis produces a controlled beam of light which, while bright, is only designed to penetrate the skin to a depth of 1mm. The MedLite Q-Switch laser was designed and approved specifically for aesthetic laser treatments.

Will the laser affect my normal skin tone?

Laser facial rejuvenation is designed to selectively target dark concentrations of melanin, often located in sun spots, age spots, freckles and birth marks. Occasionally, the process can whiten your natural skin tone but the body’s natural regenerative process will soon replace this whitening, returning your skin to its natural colour.

What precautions should I take before and after treatment?

Exposure to direct sunlight should be avoided as much as possible, both before the treatment and for some weeks following. SPF sunscreen must be worn daily during the process.

Does laser rejuvenation hurt?

Every patient experiences a different level of discomfort depending on skin sensitivity, the location and area of the treatment. Most patients describe the discomfort as a mild sunburn.

What are the possible side effects?

Possible side effects of the Laser Facial Rejuvenation are: redness of skin, mild swelling, blemishes, or localised inflammation may occur. This treatment is not suitable if you are pregnant.

How does it look afterwards?

After the treatment, the area will feel hot, similar to a sunburn, sometimes for up to several hours. Discomfort disappears over the next few hours, a scab or crust will develop over the area, and this looks darker than the original lesion. This will last between 12-18 days depending on the size and site (longer on arms and legs). When the scab comes off, the area will be pink for another couple of weeks and then will return to its final colour.

How long does it take to heal?

Noticeable results are usually seen within a few weeks of laser treatment while some areas may take up to 12 weeks. Patients heal at very different rates depending on the depth of the treatment, the area treated and your own health.

What type of post-treatment care is necessary?

Avoid showering for 24 hours after treatment and avoid scrubbing the treated area until it heals. Failure to wear sunscreen after the treatment can result in further sun damage to occur, resulting in new pigmented lesions.
